From the Vault – Freaks and Geeks

freaks_and_geeks1I like  a lot of TV. By that I mean I watch a lot of TV on a re-accuring basis, most of it I will only watch once and then I move on. But there are a handful of shows that I LOVE. And on that list is Judd Apatow/Paul Feigs coming of age high school dramedy “Freaks and Geeks” It was one of those shows that was ahead of its time and too smart for its own good. Looking back at it now, you will scratch your head and wonder why it wasn’t a rousing success.

Starring James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel and Linda Cardellini, it is set in the early ’80s and follows the Weir family as the two children embark on different paths in high school. The daughter getting hooked up with the freaks and the son trying not to be a geek, even though being a geek is fun and seems to come all to easy.

The writing and performances in this show are so strong. Its funny and serious and touching and heartbreaking. I have watched the complete series twice and will without a doubt watch it again. I know that is not too strong of a feat considering its only 18 episodes, but still, there is a lot of stuff that I can barely muster myself through once, never mind twice.
